Starting A Sales Based Business In Ohio, What Do I Need?
I’m looking to start a business in Ohio that deals with sales and merchandising. Starting with the very basic to the most specific, what sort of paperwork do I need to file in order to be completely legal? What licenses do I need to apply for? One part of the business involves the sale of tobacco, is a license required for this in Ohio? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Go to http://www.score.org/index.html and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to discuss starting your sales business.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

You need to do several things of course. You need to get a sales tax number, register your company’s name with the state controller, Ohio does not require a business license, but you do need a license to sell tobacco, and they are controlled by county.
Three things I would do: Go meet with a CPA/accountant in your area. For not much money, they can help you with all the necessary paperwork. There is a lot, and the normal person could easily miss something. Contact your county about the tobacco license, and check out this website from the Ohio State department of development. The first stop section will help you learn much about what you need to do, and I think you will find the other links interesting as well.http://business.ohio.gov/business_cycle/…
Good Luck.
